Lumen Essence Photography features the works of Alex Compton, also known as Alexis the Photolady.
A lover and observer of all life and naturally gifted artist, Alex is fascinated by the subtle nuances which make everyone & everything "unique".
Beginning her career, the camera was merely an instrument used as a drawing & painting aide. But photography quickly became her art form of choice with the purchase of her first SLR camera in '94. Freelancing soon followed, as did work in a photo lab in order to support her new artistic addiction. Seldom seen without it, the camera became an extention of Alex's body. She became known as the "Photolady" by all the locals in the small Nevada town where she resided at the time. The moniker 'stuck' even after her almost 10 year tenure at the photo lab ended.
Though hesitant at first during the transition from film to digital imagery, Alex embraced the new world of creative expression through photo manipulation and her passion grew!!! She shared her passion for seven years teaching one, up to three classes per semester in an introductory digital photography course for Great Basin College (formerly CSN). Following in her footsteps then making their own, some of her students have won national photo contests and a few continued on to become successful professional photographers themselves.
Other field-related experience includes a season as a photo editor for Bella Pictures, a national wedding photography hub, and as a reporter and photojournalist for the Pahrump Mirror and the PV Times. Every facet of photography became for Alex a door of opportunity through which to explore, expand upon, and blend her many loves and interests.
Alex strives to capture the individual essence and emotion of her subjects and their surroundings, creating lasting memories from fleeting moments in time.
Lumen Essence Photography has recently relocated to North Texas. Free-Spirit freelancer, AlexisthePhotolady has been bitten by the travelbug, however, and will gladly serve your photographic needs on location, wherever you desire.
